While a caller is on hold with a participating business, an automated voice (IVR) prompt describes the program before any message is sent. The caller then presses 1 on their keypad (or says "yes") to opt in. This keypress is an affirmative, express opt-in given by the recipient, in real time, on the same call. Only after the caller presses 1 do we send exactly one SMS — to that caller's own phone number (their caller ID). If the caller does not press 1, no message is sent.
